As we inch towards spring, the ground (and our bones) start to thaw, and our thoughts turn once again to one thing: Burgundy. Zachys began holding an auction in conjunction with La Paulée in 2008 and as we always do, we have once again built a sale focusing on the Côte d’Or.
One of the standouts of the sale is a cellar we’re calling DRC for Days (Lots 237-262). Starting in ’93, hitting the ‘98s, ‘99s, ‘05s, and ending up on the ‘09s, this consignment covers an impressive collection of La Tâche, Romanée Conti and Montrachet. Continuing in this theme is The Dream Cellar (Lots 331-377), a consignment of Burgundy wide in its breadth, considerable in its depth, and reassuring in its provenance. Other highlights include a large swath of Domaine Fourrier (Lots 595-687), the rare “Cuvée 59” from Lamarche (Lots 713-721)which is made from grapes once part of La Tâche, and the “micro négoce” wines of JM Roulot including numerous formats of his rare Chevalier Montrachet(Lots 724-736). Lastly, it wouldn’t be a Zachys auction unless we included other wine regions—Bordeaux, California, the Rhône Valley, Champagne and Italy (lots 796-end). Particularly impressive is the Big Bottle Bonanza (Lots 796-811), comprised of large format First Growth Bordeaux from 1966, 1982 and 1996.
